Brixton Bricks N’ Coffee Beans

Hey everyone,

As I mentioned last week, this week I am running a guest strip while I start work on the beginning of another chapter for my own storyline. Robin Hotter was the man nice enough to supply today’s comic. Robin can usually be found at his own website, or generally the comments area on this site. Make sure you go check his Deviant Art site for more of his art.

This dude has twin daughters – so believe me, with all the responsibilities he has to meet at home, I really appreciate him stepping up and delivering a great comic for me to run here. He even waited patiently for a few weeks for me to figure out how to wrap up my Party storyline before I could run his page.

Thank you kind sir, I really appreciate the comic – it looks great!

Thanks for reading,
Marc

2 x Rad artist interpretations of ActionMan Adam

July 15th, 2010 | by Marc

Last week, unexpectedly, I was lucky enough to see two different art pieces from two different artists doing an homage to Adam! Now before you suggest that I paid both of these guys to do so, I will let you know that it’s not in my budget to do so. Ha ha! I will however buy them both a beer because it was awesome in both cases. Let me break it down for you.

Robin Hotter – Monday, I get word from Robin (a frequent commenter on this site and a super nice guy) that he was inspired on a trip home from work, and just had to draw something. Amazingly, in this spur of the moment – his art mission turned to Adam. You can read about it here, at his website. The result was cool, like a Dan Hipp infused piece of work, and I’m digging the colours on it. Spontaneous art is the best!

That segways perfectly into the other artist:

thisisrabbit – thisisrabbit I have known for some time. He pretty much has a hand in everything. On the web or on the streets, you can find his special brand of unique art all over the place. To the point where it even showed up in a popular video game! Often introspective and mostly hilarious, thisisrabbit is dedicating his time to a new “doodle-a-day” project over on his Flickr page. If you have a Flickr account or a twitter account, I highly recommend you add him as a contact so you can keep up with the project. I check it out daily. Last Thursday, thisisrabbit was kind enough to feature Adam as one of the daily subjects, and I was stoked to see what he’d done!

Thanks to both those guys, if either of you catch me at the pub, I’ll buy you that beer. Cheers!

Thanks for reading
Marc

Guesting on a webcomic and a review!

Sometimes people can be incredibly cool.

This week has been a good one. A couple of weeks ago, Dan, from Sassy Fortnight informed me he wanted a break from his comic for a week and asked me to draw a page for him so he would have something to run during this week. If you haven’t been over to Sassy Fortnight  yet, go have a look. It’s a really cute and fun comic which has Dinosaurs and a Robot in it. What more do you need from the Internet?

Having never done a guest comic before, I was very aware that by saying “yes” I knew had to come up with the goods – a comic that would hopefully be fun for the creator, but also their readers. Not to mention you’re dealing with their own characters. It’s a unique situation. I know I can do anything with my characters at any time, but playing with someone else’s, and getting one page to tell a story you hope people will like – it’s intimidating. Dan is a really nice dude though, and wanting to lend a helping hand I asked for the deadline, and then worked it into my schedule.

After about 5 hours I had the finished product done. It went live this week – so please, go and check it out, and let me know if you liked it! Thankfully Dan did like it, and had some nice things to say about my own comic in the process. Cheers, dude!

The other nice thing to happen this week was a very kind review of my first comic by Robin Hotter. Robin is another New Zealand based artist, and he contributes his own awesome comic called Rally Mark to DMC Comics, an Anthology series (to which I have contributed to) run here in New Zealand.

Robin’s review was really cool, and totally made my day. Go have a read if you feel so inclined!

Hope the week has treated you just as well,

Thanks for reading!
Marc
