Say It Aint So

Hello again!

What the hell happened to the year? It’s like mid November? Amazing that it has gone by so fast.

This comic was too much fun to draw. Was nice to push the cartooning a little bit on the last panel. Munter is a character who is usually very chill, so we know it is a big deal for him. I hope you enjoy this page as much as I did drawing it.

Thanks for reading,
Marc

Shake Shack

Hey all,

Well my affinity for Shake Shack knows no bounds. If you haven’t been, its a great burger and shake chain on the East Coast of the USA. Very tasty menu offerings. However, I couldn’t ignore the play on words. Every aftershock turns every house in Christchurch into it’s own “shake shack”. Maybe someone should open a store in Christchurch for the people of Canterbury to enjoy?

I have missed making comics. It’s so good to be getting into the drawing again. Also my store has been activated again since returning from holiday. If you want to buy one of my print comics, you can do so by heading on over to the store!

Thanks for reading!
Marc

Validation

Hey all,

This one was supposed to go up last week. However I contracted a Flu, and it knocked me on my ass. I am still shaking it right now actually. A few days out of action it was for me. Not a hell of a lot of fun. In any case, I finally got to finishing the page today. I hope you enjoy it. It will be the last one until October. More information about that here. Just taking some time off from the comics to recharge my batteries.

However, I’m expecting the site blog will update every now and again during that time.

Hope all is well on your end.

As always, thanks for reading!

Kind Advice

That is probably not what Emily meant, Adam. Oh well.

How are things everyone?

I’m going to keep this post short. I’m tired. I hope all is well where ever you are in the world. I’m looking at you London, and other areas of England. Look after yourselves.

Getting Perspective

Getting Perspective

Hello again,

During this trying time in Christchurch, people are making some tough decisions. The primary one, is of course, whether or not they can deal with continuing to live in the city. A lot of people are leaving and every reason for doing so is a legitimate one. However, a lot of people are also choosing to stay, and rough it out. It’s a personal choice. Knowing this, I knew I had to get to this page immediately after establishing damaged Christchurch into Adam’s world, so we knew where he stood. It was always going to end up like this, but it’s still important to know why.

Hope your week is going well. I’ve been extraordinarily busy this week. It’s been crazy. I’m not complaining though. That’s a good thing.

Thanks for reading,
Marc

It’ll Never Be The Same Again

Welcome to Chapter 6.

Well, this isn’t the usual kind of comic that I put up. In fact this is about as far away from the tone of the comic as it gets. When I started making this comic it was truly a love letter to Christchurch, and the time I spent there. I always wanted the comic to be a celebration of those good times, so I based the story all around those times and the city that gave so much to me.

Never in my imagination did I think I’d be incorporating or documenting my characters through a natural disaster, but then February 22 changed a lot of things for a lot of people. I’m going to put what I can into the story as I see fit, and the characters will be along for the ride as Christchurch builds itself back up again.

As always, thanks for reading!

Facts

Hey everyone,

What a rough week it’s been. Unless you’ve been under a rock, I’m sure you would have heard by now that the city of Christchurch has been leveled by another massive earthquake. This time there was loss of life and horrible devastation to a city that is my home away from home. I’m going to hit a blog up, probably tomorrow about it all.

In the meantime, if you have enjoyed this comic – which takes place in Christchurch, and can spare some cash for a good cause. You can donate either to the Salvation Army New Zealand, or to the Red Cross New Zealand.

I know I’ll be sending as much as I can for as long as I can to try and help get the city back on it’s feet. I’m sure everyone in Christchurch will appreciate it. My thoughts are with them as they endure this horrible tragedy.

Marc

Distraction

Hey everyone,

This page is a cool one to get up. It’s one full year now that I’ve been posting weekly colour comics. It’s been a full on year, too! My thanks for my wife putting up with the hours I spend drawing these comics. Thanks also to you, for stopping by and reading them. It means a lot.

As for this page. I felt like I may have dropped the ball a bit with the sequential part of it. It might not be super obvious that you read all the panels on the left hand side first before moving over to the right. Hopefully that is a problem I don’t repeat anytime soon. I didn’t notice it until I was quite deep into the drawing of the page. Apologies for any confusion! I should have planned this one better. I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

In about half an hour I turn 30. I’ll be spending most of my birthday at work sadly. However, the wife and I are going to hit up a basketball game after the working day is done. That should be fun!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Thanks for reading,
Marc

Good Times

Hey!

Did we all have fun in the transition to 2011? I can’t say I was out there partying hard, because I had too much work on. However, there is nothing wrong with having a chilled night either. Hopefully those of you who were celebrating did enough for those of us who weren’t.

This is the first comic of 2011. I’m so happy to have finished it. It took a long time to draw. That is a lot of people on a small page. Fun to draw though! Hope you like it!

Thanks for reading,
Marc

2010: Year in review

December 31st, 2010 | by Marc
Posted In: Blog, Uncategorized

Looking back at this year, I realise what a strange year it has been. There have been plenty of ups and downs, but I’ve been consistently surprised with all of it along the way. It wasn’t a stock standard year. Which I guess means you mark it down as a year things changed. In certain scenarios that might not be a good thing, but I think if you look forward, then you can find positives.

Looking back there were some not so nice things that happened that I’d rather not dwell on. Even now, Christchurch City is still getting some big after shocks that the city centre has had to be re-evaluated again, so they can see what further damage might have occurred. Boxing day is not supposed to be about the town getting punched again! For all of you battling it out in Canterbury. My thoughts are with you. I hope your homes and businesses will endure after this tough period in the region has passed.

The year hasn’t been without some interesting moments though.

Some thoughts on 2010:

The World Cup – It was nice to have another sport besides rugby in the spotlight.  That brief respite will be short lived though. 2011 welcomes the Rugby world cup, and this time I won’t be able to ignore it, as New Zealand is hosting it. I did enjoy the World Cup though.

Music – Seems like it was a year for revisiting some old friends. We had Soundgarden & Faith No More reform and start touring again. I was fortunate to see Faith No More play a show here in Auckland. Other bands began playing classic albums from front to back as a draw card to go see them play. It was amazing to see Shihad play both Killjoy and The General Electric live. The latter will be repeated again at the Big Day out 2011. Other bands from my youth that I saw were Metallica and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Travel – If you plan on going somewhere, make sure your shit is locked up tight, or you have a house sitter organised. As we found out after a couple of days in Melbourne – being burgled is the worst. That said, I had an awesome time this year traveling to Melbourne, Wellington and Christchurch.

Film – Not sure if I have a favourite from what I saw this year. I really enjoyed Pixar’s “Up” though – which I only just saw this year.

Finally, if you made it through all that. Thanks to you for reading this. I really appreciate all the support, all the comments on the comics and the site. It’s cool that some people have found it, and enjoyed it. I just want to keep going and making more stories for everyone, so thank you all.

Cheers
Marc
